#3. 사문유관상(四門遊觀相)

 

 궁전 안은 늘 싱그러웠고 행복한 삶이었습니다. 하지만 사람들이 사는 곳에 가보고 싶었던 싯다르타 왕자는 동문에서는 몸이 늙어 쇠약해진 사람, 남문은 병들고 고통스러워하는 사람, 서문에서는 죽은 이를 싣고 가는 장례 행렬, 북문 에서는 평온하게 수행하는 사문을 보게 되었습니다. 자신의 어리석음과 커다란 연민을 느끼고 이 모든 고통에서 해방되기를 바라며 수행자로 살기로 굳은 결심을 합니다.

 

#3. Four scenes of human existence

 

 In a palace, Buddha was always happy and delightful. But sometimes he wanted to go out and see how people live. He saw the elderly and weak people in the east gate, the sick and suffering people in the south gate, the funeral of dead in the west gate, and the peaceful monk in the north gate. These encounters left him a deep impression on his mind and realized no one can be an exception from the sufferings from birth, sickness, aging and death. He really wished people to be free from all the sufferings. I try to express how genuine his decision to be an ascetic was.
